This race was held in NW conditions 13-18 knots - Competitors started at 200 pm GPS time and Sportsman started at 225 pm wind was steady at the island then lighter near La Ventana shores - the full course was run, and a mechanical failure on the starting boat made for a difficult start. 110 racers entered - 87 competitors and 23 Sportsmen. Partly sunny skies invited the thermal wind to fill in the holes for a good crossing. By the end of the sportsmens race kites were pumping hard and 8 had to be picked up by pangas. There were no protests. Men-Long Distance 12 mile Island Crossing this race was held on Thursday in calm seas with light SE breeze 1) KIWI FIELDS - Imperial Beach, CA won 10 6 Blair board from Stand Up Paddle Sports, SB and a Hobie Paddle 2) Jason Maartense - Canada 3) Mark Dix - Washington USA on the same windsurfer that he races competitively in the crossing and course racing! His paddle is even made of a windsurf boom! 4) Julien Sudrat - Tahiti

All in all a great event thanks to our sponsors and volunteers. Great performance by our 2 bands KL Reggae and Los Culpables.All trophies were hand made by our local school kids - special thanks to super volunteer Charmaine, Minu, Mary Sim and her raffle posse, Jim and Sandy,the Palapas Ventana staff, subdelegado Osvaldo Cota Cota, Santiago and M, 15 local pangueros, Capitan Nono, sound by Okimi, 22 local La Ventana sponsors. The event kicked off with a 15 ton trash pickup throughout our town led by our mayor. With a mix of computer forecasting and fishermen voodoo, we made the best of the conditions we had and got lucky- SUP crossing, Kite crossing, Course Racing, and Big Air all were run in good conditions. All racers were accounted for and when it was all said and done the schools won big.
