Our towns of La Ventana and El Sargento have 5 local schools. La Ventana Kndergarten, La Ventana Primary, El Sargento Kinder, El Sargento Primary, and El Sargento Jr High.
Every year the La Ventana Classic distributes grant applications to all the schols, plus the health clinic and other worthy community organizations (karate teams, dog clinics). Each school or organization provides detailed bids and requests assistance to achieve projects of various sizes. One project is chosen each year to be accomplished during the event with 50 volunteer competitors working alongside 50 locals from the schools. Grants are given in the form of materials or paid services - never cash - preference is given to projects with maximum assistance from parents and community members. Projects are selected that can be accomplished in 8 months or less.
